20.00\ Town Hall Ljubljana

On 16 August 1992 an article “Lesbian coming out of the closet” appeared in a newspaper. The lesbian mentioned was Sadie Lee, an artist whose painting was at that time exhibited at the London’s National Portrait Gallery.

Twenty-four years later, Sadie Lee has already had more than thirty solo and group exhibitions in venues such as Museum of London, Schwules Museum in Berlin, Mesto žensk, to mention only a few. She was honoured with a BP Travel Award and BP Portrait Award commendation by the NPG.

We will exhibit Sadie Lee’s latest works, which are a reimagination, or rather a subversion of 18th century paintings, as well as some earlier works. The title of the exhibition leaves one in ambiguity, an endless space of possible interpretations. It challenges one to look beyond the norm.

After introductory words by Nina Dragičević, Sadie Lee will give a short artist talk on her work.
