What is pride parade?
Pride parade is a manifestation of GLBTIQ (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer) population. The fist pride parade was a response to the 1969 Stonewall Inn Riots when a group of gays and lesbians stood up for themselves and protested the raids and police violence. Today, many pride parades take place all over the world with which we want to draw attention to several problems we face, fight for our rights, and stand proud. In 2005, the 2nd World Pride Love without borders was also scheduled to take place in Jerusalem but was postponed due to the political situation in the region.
Why different names?
In short - for different emphasis and translations. Parada ponosa is a translation from pride parade, and there are some other names: CSD - Christopher Street Day (Stonewall Inn was located on Christopher Street), and Mardi Gras (as the festival; this name is used mostly in Australia). A point of interest: Dutch pride is called Roze Zaterdag (Pink Saturday).
When did the first Pride take place in Slovenia?
1st Slovenian pride took place in Ljubljana in 2001, as a response to the intolerant and rude manners of staff in one of the bars in Ljubljana. As elsewhere, the pride became traditional; we organised it for the 5th time in 2005:
2001: Road past intolerance - a march against homophobia

2002: Country, know your debt?

2003: We are different, you are equal

2004: The wedding is on!
