Dance
for tolerance
Slogan
of the event:
Tell me - and I will forget
Show me - and I may remember
Involve me - and I will understand (Confucius)
A
spectacular, cultural, seven hour multimedia event was organised after
the street parade and was a campaign for tolerance and equal rights.
Various musicians, bands, dancers, performers and DJs drew attention and
invited people to join us to dance for tolerance.
The dance aimed at increasing tolerance, solidarity and providing better
life for all.
Break
the silence, break the prejudices
Break the silence and banish the prejudices: these are the two objectives
which Dance4tolerance sought to achieve, and judging from the feedback
we managed to do achieve the goal.
There is a lot of tolerance talk nowadays but really talking to one another
about the difficulties involved is an entirely different matter.
Dance4tolerance wanted to change the way in which young people are informed
about tolerance, discrimination, gay rights, by doing so to break the silence.
Young
people taking action themselves
Organisers of Dance4tolerance know that the youth and their perception
of the world need to be at the heart of what one organises for them.
Young people only feel involved, when they are offered concrete means of
involvement, when they can take action themselves. Prejudices surrounding
homosexuals (homophobia) will be banished by utilising icons and role models
coupled with a multimedia campaign, which constantly involve young people
in the campaign. The activities will initiate peer-to-peer communication
about tolerance, thereby enabling young people to educate each other. After
all, young people accept more from their friends than anyone else.
Sharing
information
Dance4tolerance certainly does not want there to be less talk about tolerance
for all. Indeed, there is room for a great deal more talk about the subject,
particularly on the part of young people. More than anything, sharing information
with other young people needs to be fun.
